Pioneering Bioadhesives For Regenerative Medicine

The Problem

Periodontitis, otherwise known as gum disease, represents a significant global
health burden, affecting nearly 50% of the adult population. Standard treatments for
mild-to-moderate cases focus on plaque and bacteria removal through scaling and
root planing. However, these methods often fail to address the underlying issue:
the periodontal pocket.

Why Periodontal Pockets Matter

This pocket, formed by detached gum tissue, acts as a reservoir for persistent bacterial infection. While regenerative surgical options exist, they are often invasive, costly, and typically reserved for severe cases, leaving a critical gap in early intervention care.

Our Solution

We are developing a minimally invasive,
early-intervention treatment designed to
address the root cause of periodontal
disease progression. Our solution utilizes
an injectable regenerative biomaterial
specifically engineered to close the
periodontal pocket

How it Works

Aimed for use as an adjunct to traditional
Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), our technology allows clinicians to:

  • Seal the Pocket: Physically close the
    detached tissue to prevent bacterial
    recolonization.
  • Targeted Delivery: Deliver potent
therapeutics directly to the site of
    damaged tissue.
  • Promote Regeneration: Leverage the
    body’s natural healing response to
    regenerate tissue and reverse pocket
    depth.

Meet the Team

AdHeal is an Imperial College London spin-out, born from the Celiz Lab in the Department of Bioengineering. Our mission is to bridge the gap between advanced material science and clinical reality. We specialize in the development of advanced adhesive materials and regenerative hydrogels designed to transform tissue engineering
and regenerative medicine.

We are applying decades of research in tissue engineering to provide a transformative, minimally invasive solution for the millions of patients suffering from periodontal disease.
